Wildfires north of Meander River are contained

WILDFIRE UPDATE JULY 13  2015 AT NOON

All wildfires north of Meander are contained, with the current weather and resources these fires are not expected to grow past containment boundaries. Residents of Meander River remain on an evacuation alert, for information call (780) 926-2786.

The wildfire burning 50 km west of High Level south of Highway 58 remains out of control at 27,950 hectares. This wildfire is currently 26% contained and there are 192 firefighters fighting this out of control fire.

The wildfire burning 3 km west of North Tallcree is being held at 5,000 hectares. This wildfire, with the current weather and resources is not expected to grow past containment boundaries.

The wildfire in the Buffalo Head Hills area is out of control at 13,077 hectares. This fire is 3 km south east of the Buffalo Head Tower day use area. 

The wildfire 24 km northwest of Steen River, west of Highway 35 is being held at 9,261 hectares.

There are 32 wildfires in the High Level Wildfire Management Area (HLWMA). Seven are out of control, 14 are being held and 11 are under control. To see the status and location of all wildfires in the HLWMA please click here. Despite some rain in the area, continued warm temperatures leave the wildfire hazard HIGH.

Photo: Hotshot crew from Truckee California arrived in High Level yesterday. This crew will be working on the out of control wildfire west of High Level.

In the past 24 hours there have been no new wildfire starts in the High Level Wildfire Management Area (HLWMA). Air quality will remain poor for the HLWMA. Multiple wildfires in the High Level area and across the northern boreal are producing dense smoke. Anyone with health concerns should check the Alberta Health Services website or call 811 for 24/7 health advice from Alberta Health Link.
