FIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT | MAY 7, 2021

A fire advisory is in effect for the High Level Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to drying conditions and high wind.

Under this advisory:

  • Existing fire permits are still valid.
  • New permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, only for essential burning.

Prohibited:

  • Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire.

Although existing fire permits remain valid, always remember to review the conditions of your fire permit to ensure you are still allowed to burn; especially in regard to wind speed.

Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.

If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

HAZARD REDUCTION BURNING

Agriculture and Forestry firefighters will be conducting hazard reduction burning in the community of Chateh. The objective is to remove fine fuel such as dry dead grass along ditches, open fields and other recreation areas. By removing these hazards it will reduce the risk of human-caused fires that may threaten homes and the community. Firefighters will be burning over the next few days as conditions allow. Please be cautious of firefighters working in the area and smoke in the air.

FIRE PERMITS

From March 1st until October 31st, fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. To request your free fire permit call the High Level Forest Area permit line at 780-926-5407. Leave a message with your home location, burn location, what you plan to burn and our patrolmen will get back to you.

The fire hazard is increasing in snow-free areas and conditions can change rapidly. We ask that you monitor conditions closely if you are doing any burning under a fire permit.

Fire permits help us to track what is burning on the landscape. If you're burning without a fire permit or outside fire permit conditions, your fire is considered a wildfire. By getting a permit you help keep our firefighters free to fight wildfire.
