The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Wildfire Management area is Very High due to gusty wind and drying conditions. During high hazard times, fire will ignite easily and spread rapidly. We urge you to use caution while working or recreating in Alberta’s forests. The Initial Spread Index (ISI) values over the northwestern corner of the province are increased for the next two burning periods.
Due to wildfire hazard conditions, a fire advisory is in effect for the Grande Prairie Wildfire management Area. Fire permits will only be issued for burn barrels, smudges and smoke houses until further notice. Permits for heavy burning such as brush piles or windrows, will not be issued at this time. All permits holders are asked to check and follow the conditions of their permit. Safe campfires are allowed, but may be restricted in the coming days if conditions worsen.
Remember to extinguish your fire by soaking the ashes and feeling for heat. To stay current about this fire advisory and all other fire ban information within Alberta visit Alberta Fire Bans. Going camping for the May Long weekend? Click here for What you need to know before you go
