GFX-HSB-WildfireDangerUpdate-Low.jpgThe wildfire danger rating for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is LOW. Currently, the Peace Region is experiencing smokey conditions. Smoke from wildfires burning in the Yukon, Alaska and potentially as far away as Russia drifts over the province. A heat warning has been issued for the Grande Prairie region with smoke concentrations varying widely with changing  temperature and wind conditions.

This wildfire season the Grande Prairie Forest Area has had 33 wildfires, burning more than 13 hectares. Each of these fire has been extinguished.  Only six of these fires are a result of lightning, all others were human caused and 100 percent preventable. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.

The Forest and Prairie Protection Act include fines up to $287 for abandoning campfires as well as for using fireworks and exploding targets in forested areas. Learn more about updates to the act and fine amounts here.
