Rain and cooler temperatures will help keep the wildfire hazard Moderate to Low for this weekend.

The Grande Prairie Wildfire Management Area has recorded seven wildfires with almost 13 hectares burned since wildfire season began March 1.

Environment and Sustainable Resource Development will postpone the hazard reduction burning near Sturgeon Lake First Nation for the next few days. Weather permitting, this prescribed fire will resume for (TWP 70 RGE 23 W5M) near Valleyview Monday April 27 2015. Firefighters will use prescribed fire to increase community safety by removing flammable fuel.

Fire permits are required for any type of burning except lighting a campfire. If you live within the Forest Protection Area, please contact your local Environment and Sustainable Resource Development office to obtain a fire permit. Albertans living outside the Forest Protection Area can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
