The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Wildfire Management Area is HIGH. We will reach a high of 16 degrees Celsius, wind is north at 25 kilometers per hour today with gusts up to 45 kilometers per hour. No rain is expected in the next 24 hours.
SMOKE IN THE AIR. Smoke is drifitng into the area today from distance wildfires in High Level. Anyone with smoke-related health concerns can check the Alberta Health Services website or call 811 for 24/7 health advise from health link Alberta. A Fire Advisory was issued July 2, 2015 for the entire Grande Prairie Wildfire Management Area due high winds and increased wildfire danger. Fire permits are currently suspend; except forfor burn barrels, smoke houses and sweat lodges. No new fire permits will be issued until conditions change.
Safe campfires are allowed in campgrounds and backcountry or random camping areas, but may be restricted if conditions worsen.
Local Wildfires (information current as of July 4, 11am)
Currently, there are no wildfires in the Grand Prairie Wildfire Management Area. Since April 1 2015, there have been 43 wildfires which have burned 78.99 hectares.
Provincial Wildfires
In the last 24 hours there have been 11 new wildfires. Alberta currently has 129 wildfires. Alberta currently has 121 wildfires. 52 are out of control, 18 are being held, 50 are under control and one has been turned over to the responsible party. Since April 1, 2015, Alberta has recorded 1,272 wildfires that have burned a total of 312,674.53 hectares.
How Can You Help? Never leave your campfire unattended and properly extinguish your campfire by soaking it, stirrig it and soaking it again.
