The Wildfire Danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now MODERATE

Wildfire Situation 

At this time, there are two active wildfire in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. Both wildfires are listed as Under Control (UC). Since March 1, 2021 there have been 97 wildfires burning nearly 132 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. Equipment fires or work related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause dry fuels to ignite into a wildfire. When operating equipment clear debris from moving parts. Always check your muffler and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass and keep watch of your surroundings. Always ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available.

Fire Permits 

From March 1st  until October 31st, fire permits are required for any burning except campfires in the Forest Protection Area (FPA). If you live within the FPA, please contact your local forestry office. Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
