Wildfire season officially ends on October 31, but safe burning practices are always in season. From November 1 to March 1, fire permits are no longer required for burning in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. However, you are still responsible for any burning after wildfire season ends and extinguishing those winter burns. Visit www.wildfire.alberta.ca for information on conducting safe winter burns.

If you are planning on doing any large burning it is still important to check with your local municipality or county as many have winter burning bylaws and notification systems in place that can help monitor smoke and prevent an unnecessary emergency response.
