gfx-hsb-wildfiredangerupdate-low.jpgThe wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now LOW. The cool humid weather and the forecast for rain showers through the weekend has lowered the fire danger in our area. GRANDE PRAIRIE FOREST AREA WILDFIRE UPDATE | October 8, 2020 at 2:00 P.M.

Since March 1, there have been 47 wildfires in the Grande Prairie  Forest Area, burning a total of 46 hectares. There are currently two active wildfires burning in the Grande Prairie Forest, both of these have been turned over to the responsible party for extinguishment. The wildfire Status map is updated throughout the day and provides an overall look at the current wildfire situation across Alberta. Although the fire advisory has been lifted for our forest area, many municipalities still have fire bans or prevention notices in effect for their jurisdictions. While out hunting and recreating, please remember to use caution in the forest. During the fall, dry fuels such as grass can ignite quickly into a wildfire when campfires aren't properly extinguished. If you have a campfire remember to soak it with water, stir it and soak it again. The fire isn't out until it is cool to the touch.
