Winter Burn Tips

Posted on Wed, Dec 20, 2017

GFX-HSB-WildfireDangerUpdate-Low.jpgA fire permit is not required outside of fire season (November 1 - February 28) in the Forest Protection Area, but please continue to use caution with your winter burning. Make sure your fire is out. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until the ashes are cool to the touch.

  • Burn when there is snowcover, the ground is frozen and winds are light (less that 12 km/h.)
  • Keep it clean! Avoid mixing soil with the woody debris by using a brush rake or excavator to achieve a clean, efficient burn.
  • Ensure that debris piles are at least 25 metres from trees, brush and structures.
  • Only burn what you can control. Never leave your fire unattended.
