Wildfire Danger
Current Wildfire Danger: The current wildfire hazard drops to MODERATE for the west side of the Fort McMurray Forest Area and LOW on the east side. Areas noth of Fort Chipewyan remain HIGH.
A mix of cloud and showers had reduced the wildfire hazard in the Fort McMurray area. It has also helped to alleviate the smoke in the air.

Wildfire Situation Reports
Since March 1, 2017 there have been 65 fires in the Fort McMurray Forest Area. As 10 a.m., 2 are being held and 1 is under control.
- MWF-062 - This fire in the Fort McMurray Forest Area is being held at 11.2 hectares, located approximately 10 km south of Namur Lake No. 174B. Crews are still actively fighting this fire.
Provincially, there are currently 11 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. 3 are being held, 6 are under control and 2 have been turned over to the responsible parties.
Since March 1, Alberta has recorded 850 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area that have burned a total of 3,905.62 hectares.

Forest and Prairie Protection Act | Legislative and Regulatory Changes
The Alberta government is committed to protecting Albertans and their communities from the threat of wildfire. Many wildfires are caused by human-activity, approximately 70% over the past 6 years, and are 100 per cent preventable.
Last fall legislation was passed to enhance wildfire prevention, to deter risky behaviour and give wildland firefighters more tools to keep Albertans and their communities safe.
