WILDFIRE DANGER
The wildfire danger ranges from HIGH to VERY HIGH in the Edson Forest Area (EFA). Although grass in open fields and ditches is turning green, the forest and north facing areas haven't greened up and are still dry.
Yesterday our firefighters responded to several abandoned campfires that were still smouldering because they were not fully extinguished and could possibly escape into the adjacent dry grass and trees. Ensure your campfire is completely extinguished before you go. Soak the ashes, stir them and soak them again until they are cool to the touch. We can all do our part to prevent wildfires.
If you spot a wildfire call 310-FIRE.

FIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT - as of May 14, 2018 @ 8:00 a.m.
Not allowed
- All burning under current fire permits are cancelled (except burn barrels) and
- No new fire permits will be issued until further notice.
What is allowed
- Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings) or random camping areas
- Charcoal briquettes
- Portable propane fire pits
- Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
- Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.
If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

We had eight new wildfires over the long weekend in the the EFA. Several of these were abandoned campfires . It's critical that you remember to Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.

There are currently 23 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Five are being held (BH), 12 wildfires are under control (UC) and six wildfires have been turned over to the responsible parties.

Since March 1, 2018, Alberta has recorded 366 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area that have burned a total of 1,346.94 hectares.

OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES CAN START WILDFIRES
Be careful if operating quads and bikes in grassy areas. Grass, twigs, leaves and mud can build up in the hotspots, heat up, drop off and start a wildfire. Remember to clean your machine before, during and after your ride.
