WILDFIRE DANGER
Dry conditions are keeping the wildfire danger at high for the Edson Forest Area. Today, temperatures will be around 18 degrees C, and the relative humidity will be higher, the wind will be NW 15km/h, scattered rain showers are expected. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.
WILDFIRE SITUATION | June 29, 2018, at 2:30 p.m.
The Quigley Creek Wildfire (EWF-077) - Out of Control at 1,137 ha in size; 15% contained.
The wildfire has not grown in size since the evening of June 27, 2018. Given the current weather conditions, number of firefighters, and other equipment, 15 per cent of the wildfire is contained, meaning it is holding and not spreading.
No communities are threatened. The wildfire remains approximately:
- 15 km south east of Hinton
- 28 km north west of Robb
- 60 km west/south west of Edson
- 6 km from McLeod Campground (Km 35 Robb Road)
Today, the wildfire has received very little rain; 70 firefighters, various pieces of heavy equipment, and 7 helicopters continue working on the north side of the wildfire, while airtainkers focus on the south sides. Alberta Wildfire is working closely with Yellowhead County, Town of Hinton, Town of Edson, Alberta Parks, industry partners, and the RCMP to ensure public and firefighter safety.
To keep everyone safe during the wildfire operations, certain areas cannot be entered. We recommend that people do not enter these areas and find alternative routes or destinations. The following is information on road and campground closures:
Road Closures
For the most up to date information visit 511.alberta.ca, or see the Alberta 511 App. In addition, the following roads are being used for firefighting operations and are not accessible to the public.
- Robb Road, between Hinton and Robb
- Mercoal and Pembina Roads, north of Highway 47
- Gregg River Road
- Hargwen Road south of Highway 16

Campground Closures
Please refer to albertaparks.ca for campground closures. Current closures include: McLeod River, Fickle Lake, and the Gregg Cabin Group campgrounds.
Random camping, west of Highway 47, is discouraged due to the uncontrolled wildfire, and firefighting operations. For your safety, we encourage camping in open, designated campgrounds only.

Hinton Information Station
The information station is located at the Green Square in Hinton, it will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Smoke from the wildfire may drift into surrounding communities, if you have smoke related health concerns, please call 811 or visit Alberta Health Services.
Currently, there is 1 other wildfire in the Edson Forest Area.
EWF-065 is located just south of the Coal Valley Mine, and is currently under control at 2.57 hectares in size. No infrastructure is threatened. Firefighters will continue to monitor the wildfire until it is extinguished.

Albertans are always asked to use caution when out working or enjoying the forest within the Forest Protection Area:
- Clear debris from hot spots on your Off-Highway Vehicle.
- Ensure your campfire is out - Soak it, Stir it, Soak it Again.
