Heavy precipitation will keep the wildfire danger LOW in the Edson Forest Area.  We ask that the public always use caution when burning. 

Remember, if you're within the Forest Protection Area, you'll require a permit for all burning with the exception of a campfire.  For permit information, Click Here.  

If you see smoke in the forest, report it by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

The Fire Ban System

Alberta Agriculture and Forestry uses a five level colour-coded system for putting on fire bans in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.  The system outlines permitted and prohibited activities related to conditions and the hazard level.

WILDFIRE SITUATION | July 20, 2018 

Edson Forest Area:

There is currently 1 wildfire (EWF077 - UC) in the EFA. Since March 1, 2018 there have been 92 wildfires in the EFA that have burned approximately 1,302 hectares in total.

Provincial Stats:

  • There are currently 14 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.  3 are being held, 7 are under control and 4 have been turned over to the responsible parties.

  • Since March 1, 2018, Alberta has recorded 957 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area that have burned a total of 45,918 hectares.

  • Agriculture and Forestry has the following resources deployed on wildfires or pre-positioned across the province ready to action new wildfires: 472 firefighters, 31 helicopters, heavy equipment and 8 airtankers

The Quigley Creek Wildfire (EWF-077) - Classified as Under Control at 1,274 hectares in size. 

The fire is currently Under Control, meaning the wildfire is completely contained and will be extinguished.

Crews are still working on the fire to date.  The fire will be monitored for hotspots until it's classified as extinguished.
