The wildfire danger in the Edson Forest Area is LOW. Visit AlbertaFireBans.ca to stay informed.  If you see smoke or flame in the forest, call 310-FIRE.

The view from Adams Creek wildfire lookout tower. The Edson Forest Area has a total of 12 wildfire towers, all of which have unique and beautiful scenery.

Rainfall and cooler temperatures will keep the Wildfire Danger at LOW in the Edson Forest Area, we ask that you use extreme caution at all times when working and recreating in the outdoors.

Remember to always fully extinguish your campfire and never leave it unattended.  Knock the hotspots off your OHV and if you see smoke or flame in the forest, report it to 310-FIRE (3473).


EDSON FOREST AREA WILDFIRE UPDATE | July 18, 2019

The Edson Forest Area (EFA) currently has 0 active wildfire.

Since March 1, 2019, there have been 52 wildfires in the EFA which has burnt approximately 265 ha.  To view the provincial wildfire map, visit our website by clicking here.

Did you know that Alberta Wildfire manages 127 fire lookouts that are located throughout the province, many of which are situated on top of mountains.  

Lookout Towers are an integral component of wildfire detection in Alberta.  A Lookout Observer's first priority is to provide early detection and accurate reporting of potential forest fires. Lookouts provide continuous observation until fire control personnel arrive at the fire location.

The crews consist of six to eight crew members (16-18 years old) from across the provinces and two crew leaders. This summer experience is challenging, unique, and rewarding.

PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE UPDATE | July 18, 2019

There are currently 37 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. 9 are out of control, 7 are being held, 16 are under control and 5 have been turned over to the responsible parties.

Since March 1, 2019, Alberta has recorded 780 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta that have burned a total of 817,265.35 hectares.

Fire Danger Rating: High to extreme in the Ft Chip and Ft Vermilion areas. Low to moderate elsewhere.

Agriculture and Forestry has the following resources deployed on wildfires or pre-positioned across the province ready to action new wildfires: 1,302 firefighters and support staff, 129 helicopters, 17 airtankers and 95 pieces of heavy equipment.

Agriculture and Forestry is currently being supported by imported resources from the following provinces and agencies:  British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, Northwest Territories, Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan, Parks Canada.  Also by Mexico, South Africa and the United States.
